Summer recording:

Tanita Tikaram is her name and the record in question is called "Ancient Heart."

If you like smooth perfection you'll hate this record. If you like singers who can sing in the same way that, say, Celine Dion can sing, you'll hate this record. If you insist that the lyrics make some logical sense...well, you get the picture.

Tanita is an alto with a voice like the desert, dry and imperfect and it lets the breezes through. Sometimes her writing makes sense, but just as often it doesn't. It's always interesting enough to me that I don't care, anyhow. Some of the songs are perky and upbeat; some languid ("I say I'm feeling lazy, hammocks in mind"), some a bit sad, but none are sugar and syrup. This is why you never heard her on the radio.

The best place to find this record is in a "CD exchange" type of shop, used and cheap. Low risk.

Let me know if you find it, what you think.

It is really, really stupidly late now and I am going to bed.
