Sure. Why not?

IQ tests provide one measure of intelligence. Perhaps that measure is narrow, but then it does sort of measure what it is supposed to measure. As a psychology prof once told me: "we have a pretty good idea what it means when someone tests in the middle of the bell shaped curve. When they test off to one end or the other, we have no idea what it means."

A child who scores well off to one end or the other will be eligible for special programs. This is often a very good thing.
