Surely there's something to this. I recall that as a teenager, the wording I used to explain how I dented the family truckster was definitely different from the wording I used to announce that I made the honor roll (especially in my used of the passive voice in the former).

"Sensemaking and sensegiving as predicting organizational crisis" by Klein and Eckhaus (Risk Management, 08/2017) is worth looking at to see what might be involved. You should be able to get a copy here (although you might have to create an account):

There are several other papers that are similar to this one that attempt to predict crises and stock returns using textual analysis of emails, statements, news, tweets, etc.
