Swimming! There's been some interesting research (see Elaine Aron) on the link between genetic sensitivity (and, under stress, greater vulnerability to depression) and the appeal of water--watching it (especially in remote nature) and swimming in it.

Full disclosure: I'm a lifelong swimmer, so I'm biased. But the issue of easing depression aside, swimming is also an excellent form of exercise as we age: easier on the joints and one of the best, most natural "full-body" workouts one can find. Access to a pool is admittedly sometimes an issue.
