According to a study released yesterday by the UNU - Wider, 50% of the world's assets are held by the richest 2% of the world's population. What is the magical threshold you ask? Well, the article in yesterday's FT doesn't give the 2% cutoff, but here is what was offered:

 

Top 50% = $2,200

Top 10% = $61,000

Top 1% = $500,000

 

Perhaps even more striking is the fact that 90% of the world's wealth is held in North American, European, and the rich countries in the Pacific (Japan and Australia).
