taxlearner: "My husband recently got a new job, and we've been meaning to go through the process of starting up his 401K thru Fidelity, but with so many choices we've just kept putting it off, alway meaning to do more research. Now with the recent news, is it better to save the money and wait a few months to a year"

After 12/31/08 (or the last payroll period within 2008), you forfeit the opportunity to make any 2008 401k contributions (and possibly even earlier depending upon the speed with which your company operates).

Start immediately. There is no time like the present.

If you are concenred about equites, find the most conservative, interest paying investment choice in th plan to start, but get that 2008 money into the 401k.

Just my $0.02. regards, JAFO
