Thanks everyone for the great advice (if you happen to re-visit this thread). I must say, I am a little overwhelmed at the moment, but trying to not let that keep me from moving forward. I will look into the other forums mentioned and think for the time being the index fund looks to be the way to go. Although I am some what aching to buy a few stocks (I kind of consider myself part of the reason ebay does so well as I frequent it so often :) )---- but think I will wait until I have saved enough funds to buy more than just a single stock:)

Yeah, too bad I'm a student and I don't have any company matches or 401ks available---- but great advice like I've recieved here can help me maxamize on my own.
