Tesla will have to start phasing out federal tax credits next month at the latest. If they roll over happens after June 30 that's good news for Tesla customers and shareholders as the full credit will continue for two quarters. If the phase out rolls over before June 30, then the extension is only for 3Q18 (because the phase out started in 2Q18, even if it started just a few days before the end of the quarter.

So come October 2018 or January 2019, the federal tax credit will be cut in half to $3750.

Tesla just updated pricing today on the Model 3, slashing the price on the "Performance" model while taken out a number of the "performance" options. They also lowered the price on the AWD model, while again decontenting. This seems like a move being done because the tax credits are going to be phased out.

Despite announcements that AWD and performance models are going to production, no word yet on the $35,000 Model 3.
