The Bible was written by people of their time. They accepted slavery. We don't. They subordinated women. We don't. They did not understand sexual orientation. We are beginning to see that sexual orientation is not a choice and that two people who love each other who happen to be of the same sex should be allowed to be together and enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples.

Why is that so difficult?

I think the article you linked (very good) sheds light on why this is difficult.

It also occurs to me that we may be using "we" in two different ways. "We" as in "we Christians who see the Bible as authoritative (in some way)", or "we" in the sense of "we Americans/western country citizens/secular humanists/etc."

How are you using it?
