The biggest problem I have with the large scale use of corn is that large scale use of corn ethanol would cause price rises in other products (corn is pretty useful stuff) made from corn.

but clearly corn is far from the best source of biofuel. Ethanol from corn is a good example of how our so-called alternative energy "plan" is driven not by science but by the lobbyist carrying the largest campaign donations. There are so many environmental negatives associated with biofuel production that it should not even be considered a "green" alternative - witness the destruction of rain forests in Indonesia for biofuel production...
