The car is a 2012 Nissan Rogue. I have no family to cart around and aside from the poor gas mileage and the age, the Jeep is perfect for me. I live in the city and the car stays parked on the street full time. I drive it maybe once every two weeks and it can handle all the bumps and bruises the city can dish out. Driving around a $12,000 car that will only depreciate in value doesn't seem a wise choice.

I get what you're saying and buying a $12,000 car to have it depreciate doesn't make much sense. However, driving a car that you didn't have to buy, that gets significantly better mpg makes more sense to me. The Rogue gets 23 city/28 hwy, so from that standpoint it's a newer vehicle that gets better mileage. Ostensibly, it will be more reliable than an 18 year old Cherokee, and you could potentially drive it for another 10 to 12 years.
