The Carlsbad-by-the-sea facility's apartments are too small, at least the one that was available. Especially the kitchen. Granted, we hardly need a kitchen, what with all meals available in the dining room. But still ... I love the idea being at the ocean. I also like the idea of being in a smaller community (at C-b-t-s) about 200 residents compared to 800. The pay-back may be a larger pool of potential friends.

Reata Glen has much larger apartments. Still, going from a large house to a two bedroom apartment will be challenging. It's about six miles to the ocean as the crow flies. Much further as the Ford crawls.

And no, the C-b-t-s facility does in fact have a fine skilled nursing facility on site. They have a memory care facility as a work in progress. (Own a building, but it is commercially occupied at present.) Assisted living is on a pay-as-you-go basis. At Reata Glenn, all that is included in the (exorbitant) monthly rent. I will have to be cancer free for twelve months before I can use the LTC facility - have to have my own insurance.

Thanks for your interest and concern.
