The Jackson Hole Guides finally won their first league championship after many fruitless trips to the playoffs. It promised to be a duel between the Sun Rays vanuted offense and Jackson's lefty pitching. As was the case during the season, the lefty pitching was enough to stop A-Rod, Clark, Delgado and Chad Tracy. Aaron Fultz was selected as MVP with a win and two saves. He pitched 6.1 innings without giving up a run.
St. George's Steve Weiser pointed to the bottom of the 8th of game 2 as the pivotal moment. The Sun Rays were leading 6-4 and threatening to go up 2 games to none. The Guides, having seen this before against New York in the division series, scored 3 runs and tied the series.
With new life, the Guides offense was unstoppable after that scoring 8 or more runs runs in the next 3 games including a 17 hit, 15 run outburst in game 4 that seemed to take the will out of the Sun Rays. With Fultz spinning his magic, the series win looked assured.
Guides manager said he had a more talented group that came within one game of winning it all two years ago but that this team seemed to have more ways to win without any one player carrying the load. "They were surprisingly productive on both sides of the ball". He cited the late aquisition and insertion of Jeff Connine into the 3rd spot in the lineup as making the difference the second half of the year.
Congratulations go to Steve Wiser on assembling and piloting another great St. George club. Let the Hot Stove League begin.
