It's becoming almost humanly impossible to stay pessimistic about the future earnings of Nam Tai. Their production of the EyeToy mini-UBS camera plugged into the new Sony PlayStation 2 will probably have to increase MUCH more than the 14 times they have already announced.

This product is going to be H-U-G-E.

Here's a news item from England about the sales of PlayStation2:

-- “Sony's EyeToy: Play continues to fly off retailers' shelves, with news that it has sold 1 million copies since its European release four months ago. The game involves a mini camera (plugged into your PS2) that sits on top of the telly and tracks your body movements as you participate in interactive games like boxing or cleaning windows. EyeToy: Play arrives in North America in November, and then over to Japan for late January.

The brand's dominance in the UK charts looks set to continue with the Christmas spending spree kicking off and the imminent release (14 November) of EyeToy: Groove, the game that demands more arm flailing, but in time to music from artists like Madonna and the Mis-Teeq ladies.”--

Now just imagine the Christmas sales in the U.S!!

And new games coming onto the market, making further use of the EyeToy camera's abilities!!

Add to that the January introduction of the product into Japan and Korea – two countries even crazier about electronic gadgets than European or American kids!

Here (again) is the opening of NTE's own press release, two days ago.

-- “PRNewswire-FirstCall/ November 10, 2003 03:30:00 AM ET -- Nam Tai Electronics, Inc. today announced it has increased the production capacity of EyeToy(TM) USB Camera ("EyeToy") for Sony PlayStation(R)2. In response to a growing demand of EyeToy(TM), Nam Tai has increased its production capacity of EyeToy by 14 times from 50,000 units per month to 750,000 units per month.

On October 27, 2003, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it has sold over one million copies of EyeToy since its European release in July 2003.”

---------

One last note: When we finally get our cash bonus and extra shares around November 30, the stock might well be back to its all time high.

With the (almost certain) surge in future earnings and stock price, we might even get rid of all the shorters in the stock – even if that is almost too much to hope for!

Stay reaaaally long on NTE.

Anyone notice that we are not really investing in NTE or OVTI but Eye Toy. Both companies sell products to Sony to construct the Eye Toy. And yes, Eye Toy (whatever that is) is huge!

For sure Microsoft will bring something similar on the market for the xBox so lets hope NTE sales people are clever enough to get that deal!

Here's an entertaining preview of eye toy.

http://www.eyetoy.com/english/index.html

I actually saw this at best buy last weekend but I couldn't figure out what the purpose of me being on the screen was. I didn't realize that I was part of the game. I kept messing with the controller but it wouldn't do anything.

It really looks like the first generation of such interactive games as it is only a frame put on your image. I think the next generation must have the capability of really taking your image into a game sequence.
I am thinking of games like Tekken or simple boxing....
looking forward to that.

Ganni, you are right about that "first generation" thing --
however, I've never seen that stop millions of kids who want the next new thing.

"Mommy, Jimmy has a new eyetoy! It's SO cool!"
"But Billy, it's only the first generation model"
"(Throws tantrum) I'm going to go live at Jimmy's house until we get one."

-- well, you can finish the rest of the story, as mother pulls into Toys-r-you parking lot.

And rruyy, that eyetoy promo was way cool. I made it through "channel" five before I go bored.
