The concept of electronic, "by wire" controls described in the article is separate from the concept of a fuel cell powered car. Perhaps things are simpler with a fuel cell, however.

Every time I hear of "by wire" controls, I remember the first flight of the space shuttle, where the software grounded the vehicle until it was fixed. I also think of hackers. If the software can be updated to fix a bug, it can also be updated to include something that will drive you off a cliff.

I personally think that the biggest problem is the safety issue of driving around with a tank of hydrogen. If that can be made safe, and if we can get a good supply of hydrogen, the rest is probably easy.
