The European migration crisis which is threatening national identity is spawning groups that is of concern to German government officials.

Perhaps USians should take heed of disruptive migration crisis occurring across the pond. First the border needs to be secured. This can be done by requiring in all 50 states potential employees be run through E-Verify data base. Persons unauthorized to be in the US could not then find work. They would likely leave the US. Then amend current immigration law to place more emphasis on education*. That has paid dividends to Australia & Canada.

A study by the Bertelsmann Foundation found 89% of respondents, across all religions, consider democracy to be a good form of government. But half of respondents expressed concern over Islam.

The latest edition of the Bertelsmann Foundation's bi-annual "Religion Monitor" interview survey published on Thursday found religious tolerance in Germany to be sustained but Islam to be having a hard time, perceived by many to be negative.

50% see Islam as threat
However, the study did find that dogmatic, rigid beliefs and intolerance of other religions could be harmful to democracy in the long run.

Germany's domestic intelligence service has identified the country's Identitarian movement as an extremist entity. The group, which claims to defend European identity through ethnopluralist ideology, has gained traction.

The pan-European movement of young nationalists originated in France and sees its main purpose as defending Europe's "identity" from Islamization. Unlike many other far-right groups, Identitarians reject all association with the Third Reich or National Socialism.
However, the BfV said in a statement that the movement "ultimately aims to exclude people of non-European origin from democratic participation and to discriminate against them in a way that infringes their human dignity."

The wretched citizenship debate is back on the agenda. The recent revisions approved by both houses of the German parliament are doubtlessly due to the current zeitgeist — though their advocates are trying to present them as a matter of course.

In the future, people will only be naturalized if, in addition to previous conditions, they also agreed to "integrate into the German way of life," particularly by not being simultaneously married to multiple spouses.

The key question is not just how to obtain a German passport and the advantages it brings with it. Instead, the questions are: What are "the Germans" like, and how can someone become German without German parents? Vague terminology like "the German way of life" reveals profound insecurity when it comes to providing an answer to those core questions of identity.

* The current Trump immigration proposal that does just that has been labeled racist by democrat rep Waters as democrats do not wish to restrict the flow of people into the USA.
