It's pretty much guaranteed that traveling by plane is on the downslide. How long will this last? Will Americans have a forever fear of flying? I think this fear will wear off, unless these hijacks become common place. A possible solution is magnetically levitated trains. Trains may just make a come back after all. Hijacking a magnetically levitated train probably wont be a popular form of terrorism since trains have a fixed path. Another big benefit to this technology is it uses no oil and could be a cheaper form of travel. Air travel definitely won't disappear, but it could meet its challenge.

Another technology that excites me is genetic engineering. If we're able to work out the concerns genetic engineering poses to the ecosystem, this could be a huge boom to productivity and the cost of living.

Magnetically levitated trains use electricity to replace the fuel, and also use electricity to replace the wheels.

That electricity has to be generated somewhere.

And a study found that in the Boston-Washington corridor, the most fuel-efficient, least polluting form of transportation is the bus, followed by the car. Trains are a fairly distant third, barely beating airplanes. A slight variation in spacing - but not order - is occasioned by whether you look at typical vehicle loads, or theoretical maximum vehicle loads. (Trains beat cars if you use typical vehicle loads for cars and theoretical maximum vehicle loads for trains - but does that strike anyone as unreasonable?)

well of course, but America can produce its own electricity and not rely on OPEC which artificially keeps the price of oil high.

It remains to be seen, but these trains have another advantage in that there are no wheels which means no friction. Less energy means less cost to move the train which means more fuel-efficient.

Is it possible to have levitated automobiles, where the engery comes from within the auto, or truck? And are more efficient than currently in fashion?
