The last year or two before I moved back I read a lot of May Sarton, all her journals and there are many, and Doris Grumbach and Kathleen Norris and Greta Ehrlich, Annie Dillard, Alice Shulman, others. These are women who have been strongly compelled as they got older to be alone and live in solitude.
catmeyoo - which of these books would you recommend as a first one to read? I'd like to feel less like a freak for preferring to stay home and avoid other people.
