A well written, feel-good story about Shawn Johnson's gold medal win.

If the word "adorable" didn't exist, they would have invented it for Shawn Johnson. She really does come across as a genuine sweetheart.

"I like Nastia better."

Well, if you have a thing for icy, robotic women....

Well, if you have a thing for icy, robotic women....

I assume you're joking? Nastia stood on the podium for the medal ceremony in the Uneven Bars, which was stolen from her, and smiled and showed pure class. I have nothing but admiration for her.

If you're not kidding, I'd substitute "determination" and "cool" while performing under great stress for "icy". For these women, girls really, this is IT, they work their whole young lives for the opportunity to get it right for just a few minutes in front of the whole world. Most of them go to one or two Olympics at the most. To endure such pressure and do well is an amazing accomplishment and takes a special kind of person.

That's us understatement. Look at the difference between Katie Hoff this year as opposed to the last Olympics when she was only 15. The poor girl melted down from the anxiety. To see Nastia and Shawn so cool, calm and collected is simply amazing.

Oh, and let's not forget:
A. They have to look like they're enjoying it
B. They have to remain always graceful (Did you see the positioning and hold of their hands during the walk-ups to start?)
C. They cannot embarrass either their home country or the host country in any way, shape, or form.

All of this is on top of actually performing their routines. None of the other competitions require so much extra from their athletes, not even the men's gymnastics.
