The loud ones are what we refer to in another profession as "gunners". They usually fall into two types, loud and arrogantly smart and loud and not so smart. Fortunately there's usually a third type that's as smart or smarter and quiet. Find them to study with, they'll help you get along without it being a race. Your study group should never be competing within itself for better grades within the curve. Otherwise it's just not fun. Also try going to different libraries to study, that way they can't find you and you're not forced to differentiate between the ones that are friendly and those those just needing to boost their own egos.

Also keep in mind, people generally talk about school because that's all they live, eat, sleep, and breathe. It's hard to talk about something else with someone they don't know well. I wouldn't take it personally or as a challenge.

Less coffee, chocolate and spicy foods will sometimes help with the stomach problems. No food for 3 hours before bed and elevating the head of your bed with some bricks may also give you a better nights sleep.
