The minimum wage should be high enough that no subsidies either familial or governmental should be needed to keep a person making that wage alive and leading a dignified life. In other words, not homeless.

This is not a political point of view.(Or maybe it is) It just seems to me that if a business cannot return enough wealth to the worker so that the worker can live without subsidies, then the economy as a whole would be better off without the business.

After that it gets really complicated.

Personally, I am inclined to have a minimum wage for the reason I mentioned above. However, for the function of improving the lot of low wage earners, I do not think it will help. Wealth and freedom must be taken. They cannot be given and when anyone attempts to give more than opportunity it generally turns out poorly.
