This post may draw some fire… But I would strongly suggest anyone doing DD on ATT and looking to invest in it read the following research piece. It is 40 pages long and slows down a bit near the end in the report when discussing protocols, but I promise you it will be worth your time. Print it out, curl up in your favorite easy chair with your favorite beverage and digest it. You will get quite an education.

There are two visions of the future of the internet out there folks. The netheads and the bellheads. It is important your understand the two, especially if you are going to invest your hard earned assets in either vision. If nothing else when you are done reading it you will know what really happens every time you pick up your phone and make a phone call.

T is spending tens of millions of dollars in a legal battle to force upon the world their vision of the future. There is much at stake, a lot more than you know. Reading this will keep you informed. The report is titled:

Netheads versus Bellheads
Research into Emerging Policy Issues in the Development and Deployment of Internet Protocols
Final Report
For the Federal Department of Industry

This is essential reading. I cannot stress enough
how important it is for us all to read, digest,
and discuss the issues presented in this report.

Robert, thanks so much for discovering this report.
I'm off. I've got some reading to do.

Oh, I poked around and found this direct link to a
PDF version of the report:

Absolutely! Isenberg also has a website at http://www.isen.com

Circuit switching vs. packet switching aside, AT&T's wireless business is what attracted me.

I'm not sure how AT&T's wireless business will be eventually valuated. I checked NTT vs. NTT DoCoMo (http://quote.yahoo.co.jp/q?s=NTT&d=t) just out of curiosity. I can't read Japanese, but I recognize a few characters. So this is just my guess at best:

NTT market cap - 28,236,322 million Yen
NTT DoCoMo market cap - 33,324,480 million Yen

Can anyone shed light on this? How does T's wireless business compare with NTT DoCoMo's? My impression is DoCoMo has many more subscribers and much more revenue, but it's just amazing that DoCoMo's market cap is higher than its parent's.

(I agree that in the global market, AT&T is facing fierce competition from WCOM, GBLX and even the little-known ENT in the corporate market. And I'm also aware that in the local loop, AT&T will be fighting RBOC's, CLEC's, Paul Allen's RCNC, WCOM/FON/CSCO's MMDS, and probably even MCOM's R2 network)
