The question is, are our testing capabilities overly sensitive or is there real danger involved?

If you are asking how many germs are on shopping cart handles, I don't know.

However I make it a habit to wipe down the handles of the shopping carts with those little pre-soaked hankies they put by the door at Costco and the Albertson's I shop at. Also, I try to snag shopping carts in the parking lots because exposure to air/sunlight kills germs.

Would one (1) germ be sufficient to infect you with a disease? I don't know. I suppose it might depend on the type of germ involved.
