There are plenty of baseball competitions, track meets, and soccer matches. Figure skating, gymnastics, and cycling have worldwide competitions. Skiing and most of the other sports in both the summer and winter Olympics have significant amounts of international competitions every year.

The point of the Olympics is not to give exposure to underexposed events. It is meant to provide a high-level competition for sports that are contested by a significant portion of the world.

To me, the Olympics should be the penultimate competition in that sport. It seems they are in track, figure skating, and gymnastics. I suspect that most golfers would rather play in the PGA than in the Olympics, and putting golf in the Olympics might mean taking away the chance to compete in the Olympics from someone to whom it is actually important, and I think that would be a sad thing.

You might find it boring, but that has nothing to do with whether it is a perfect fit for spectators. Some of the most exciting (to me) sports are not very good for spectators...though they are usually very good fits for TV...

I guess I do not understand why something that is mind numbingly boring would be a perfect fit for spectators.
