There's the trade-off.

One other aspect that one needs to at least consider is that if some version of ACA/M4A is here to stay, it may become increasingly beneficial to simply fund a Roth 401k, even at higher income tax brackets, to fund any early retirement needs.

I've yet to do the math but it might be more cost effective to pay a slightly higher tax on income now but know that you may qualify for thousands in subsidies on your healthcare later.
