They are a company based on a somewhat more obscure corner of biomedical research - sugars. Most of medicine has been obsessed with research on genes, RNA and protein for the last few decades. But it turns out the molecules of different carbohydrates play a role in cell signaling as well. In particular there is a group of receptors known as galectins. This company has made basically a carbohydrate that binds galectins. This is likely important because galectins are overexpressed on many tumors. Propharmaceuticals have utilized their drug DAVANAT in combination with standard chemotherapy agents to demonstrate greater effect on tumors with fewer side effects. They have a couple of phase III studies going on and have recently sold some of their drug DAVANAT to the country Columbia. They do have some serious talent in their company. If they get FDA approval the market will be huge. However, this is an early stage company. It will either be a massive home run or will go bankrupt before anything comes of it.
Hope this helps.
