They do not allow margin in IRAs.

I first heard of brokers starting to do this about five years ago, and I thought it was a bit crazy and maybe even illegal at the time. Now I think it wasn't a matter of law, but just a matter of managing the risk for the broker. Since they don't have the margin call tool (a client can't deposit more funds than allowed by law), they must write some other recourse mechanism into the client agreement. This is potentially very dangerous, so caveat emptor and all that.
