I wouldn't put too much stock in the "bigger fish to fry" argument, sorry. I've never been one of the bigger fish but have been the subject of several tax investigations. My rule is to keep my nose completely clean with the IRS, not take any chances. A little bit of money is just not worth the anxiety you'll have when the IRS accuses you, and the anxiety will quadruple if you know you have done something that might be questionable.
