The Israeli army attacked Thursday overnight targets in Gaza Strip, hours after two rockets were fired at Tel Aviv from Gaza, a first since Israel's 2014 campaign in Gaza.

According to the Israeli military, the Iron Dome missile defense system was activated.

It is assumed that the rockets landed in open areas due to the fact that no damage or injuries were reported.

[The Iron Dome missile defense system is an ingenious system that uses radar to plot a rocket's trajectory and, if the rocket will hit in an empty area, lets it go. Thus saving the Israelis the expense of expending multi thousand dollar missiles on hundred dollar rockets.]

[IIRC Northrop makes the launcher, radars and fire control systems, while Raytheon the missile.]

I was a Hawk missile crewman back in the day and was around when we sent some Hawk missile systems to the Israelis. The Israelis paid US back with improvements to the system which resulted in the "Improved Hawk Missile System".

IIRC we are still selling Improved Hawks to the Israelis.]

Israeli warplanes bomb 'terror sites' in Gaza Strip after first rocket attack on Tel Aviv since 2014

The attack was the first time Tel Aviv has been targeted since a 2014 war

Though the attack caused no damage or injuries, it was a significant escalation

PM Benjamin Netanyahu called an emergency meeting with his military chief

Shortly after, Israeli warplanes attacked targets in southern and central Gaza

Likewise, Hamas has come under rare public criticism in Gaza for the harsh conditions in the territory. An Israel-Egyptian blockade, combined with sanctions by the rival Palestinian Authority and mismanagement by the Hamas government, have fueled an economic crisis in the territory. Residents have little desire for another war with Israel.

...

Israel holds Hamas responsible for all fire coming out of the territory. Hamas possesses a large arsenal of rockets and missiles capable of striking deep inside Israel.

But with Gaza's economy in tatters, the group has been seeking to preserve calm.

With the extremely tight blockade around Hamas' Gaza Strip, where and how the heck do those rockets and missiles get into Hamas hands??? Very puzzling to say the least.

Qassam rockets are pretty much what you'd call homemade.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qassam_rocket
The Qassam rocket is the best-known type of rocket deployed by Palestinian militants....Qassam rockets are too inaccurate and prone to malfunction to be used against specific military targets....

The utility of the Qassam rocket design is assumed to be ease and speed of manufacture, using common tools and components. To this end, the rockets are propelled by a solid mixture of sugar and potassium nitrate, a common fertilizer. The warhead is filled with smuggled or scavenged TNT and urea nitrate, another common fertilizer. This is similar to the civilian explosive ammonite.

The rocket consists of a steel cylinder, containing a rectangular block of the propellant. A steel plate which forms and supports the nozzles is then spot-welded to the base of the cylinder. The warhead consists of a simple metal shell surrounding the explosives, and is triggered by a fuse constructed using a simple firearm cartridge, a spring and a nail.

The Palestinian rocket arsenal used in the Arab–Israeli conflict includes a wide range of rockets and missiles, varying in design, size and payload capacity. Palestinian rockets include those locally made in Gaza and the West Bank as well as weapons smuggled from Iran and Syria.

Maybe you only get 50% of your allotted virgins.

...or maybe you get them all, but they’re slightly used.

Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quip about Doris Day: “I knew her before she was a virgin.”
