This doesn't explain what's happening, but this same phenomenon happened during the last few days before last quarter's numbers were released. At that time there was no news, but there was a sudden plummet in the price. As soon as the numbers came out the stock returned to its prior range.

The only explanation I can offer is that it's profit taking by those who believe the numbers will not be good.
