This month's Rule Your Retirement discusses Ben Stein's recommendation of REITs. My advisor is recommending the Hines REIT which reportedly has just opened to individual investors. In looking at the per share fees for entry, it looks like 8.2% of the initial investment goes towards commissions and fees.

Does anyone have any advice in this area? Are there quality REITs that don't charge high fees? How does one find a recommendation in this area?
