This phenomenon shows how science works....Compare that to the basic conclusions of climate change science: the Earth has been warming for over a century, the primary driver is human CO2 emissions, and that the levels of warming are extremely risky.

I am with you except for the last part on 'extremely risky'. The catastrophic/apocalyptic part is overplayed, perhaps as a way to motivate people.

As an example, consider "hurricanes getting worse". It is not hard to find statements that intense and extremely intense hurricanes (tropical cyclones) will increase. Some models do project that. However, others don't.

The GFDL (Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory) website has a page on 'Global Warming and Hurricanes'
They note there are two approaches to modeling the future, and one of the two does not show much change over the coming century.

The key question then is: Which of the two future Atlantic hurricane scenarios is more likely? The scientists at GFDL looked at hurricane records since 1878. Ocean temperature increases should have produced a change in the hurricanes. They found only a small positive upward trend in tropical storm occurrence. The trend is not statistically different from zero.

They write ""In short, the historical Atlantic hurricane frequency record does not provide compelling evidence for a substantial greenhouse warming-induced long-term increase."
