Thuvia says:
"I tried reading The Sweetest Dream by Doris Lessing. After a couple of chapters I started skipping randomly ahead. The book is well written, but what can you do when you can't stand the characters. I haven't read Lessing before. I'll give one of her other novels a try."

Forgive me for 'popping' into your conversation, but I have been dutifully sitting in semi-rapt attention for some time (one never knows how many or how few are lurking on these discussion boards -)

I read Doris Lessings THE FIFTH CHILD and found it quite disturbing until it occurred to me that she was really describing the baby-boomer generation as it exploded into the American family life. Anyone else gather that intent?
