t'll probably never happen, but what I'd really like content providers to offer is to let ME select the channels I want “a lá carte.” They'd never make any money that way, though, 'cause when it comes down to it, it would be even more painfully obvious that with 500 channels, there's still nothing on.
What I'd REALLY like for people to do is go back to talking, playing board games, reading, or playing music after dinner. The world would be a lot better place if the boob tube was turned off and people's brains were turned on.

it's a painfully slow process
but we went from 3 stations
to several dozen
over a long period of time

in the old days we had rabbit ears
but when HBO came from the sky
the idea of multicasting from distributed networks
became a profitable theory

all those people that wanted real time nationwide broadcasting
bought satellite dishes
my parents got one
that's how i watched jason
and halloween
and fraggle rock <boom boom>

sure satellite is cool and spacey and all
but i think the thing between
The Oil Times
and The Space Times
is, and has been for all these years-
ever since The Oil Age ended in the 70s
the Cable Times

the large modern distributed network...
VHS beat Beta back then
because the world didn't need
Digital Tape back then.

now these Days of Digital
require various digital distribution methods
sometimes wirelessly
sometimes on tape in my pocket
sometimes on a server located
who knows where.com

Mtv came from that
now
now
now
with all those right of ways
and massive trunk lines built up
with the revenues that all those channels generated
all around the world
we have upgraded the network
to have massive vertical headroom
that fits nicely with the size of digital content

the last thing is the neighborhood 2-way router thingys
the 96 communications act
opened the funding
and brought component prices down
The company that owned the last
great communications network
bought the new one back then
rather than build it all from scratch

hence all the silent fiber in the ground

this network
over the last 20-30 years has bloated
as far as content goes
there's a reason why hollywood
is hollywood

but the New Fresh
network finally has the ability
to fully make customizable
the Schedule

its the prudent thing to do economically
for revenues and stuff
it's wasteful to pay for the food channel
if i never watch it

so the reason why AT&T is spending billions here
is because the New more Efficient
distribution method
will generate higher revenues
and
we'll all see what we want
because that is what we will pay the most for

and it has room for phone communications too

ohh yeah, and computers fit too
