To be honest, MDP's foray into international exposure has been truly horrifying: Allied Irish Banks (complete with a visit to the company headquarters in Ireland), Cemex, China Green Agriculture, Yongye, American Oriental Bioengineering, China Mobile.... (Note: many, if not most, of these were chosen for MDP by former GG leader Tim Hanson)

If Global Gains picks a loser, it was sure to end up in MDP.

I don't say this to place blame, our first international specialist was Tim Hanson, who I hold in the highest regard... we have just had the worst luck with international picks. Bladex has been a beacon of light in a mostly dark corner of MDP.

I know this is not a good sales pitch to GG members who are undecided as to whether MDP is right for you or not, but it is the truth.

I have all the confidence in the world in Charly Travers, but he came to us from Rule Breakers; I do not believe he has an extensive background in international investing. As I said, though, I have full confidence that he is capable of doing the job but it is going to take some time for him to learn about the companies he is looking at and get comfortable enough to pull the trigger and buy.

So, I believe it is the right choice for MDP to take a step back from smaller, country-specific companies and take a more multinational, core focused approach to our international allocation. Once we have set up a base of big, multinationals, then I feel it makes sense for us to take some smaller shots with a few regional picks. I am sure this is not what a typical GG member is looking for, but we have to be what we are.
