today, I live in an apartment, my monthly outgo is LESS than owning the home, and I live in a better location - North Austin :-) The apartment has it's pros/cons which are, for now, weighted in the 'pros' side.

Apartment living is certainly different and if it suits your lifestyle that's great! I don't like the jockeying for parking, noise, etc. I think maybe I could live in a rented townhouse or some type of condo/duplex with good neighbors and plenty of elbow room for everyone, but finding such a rare bird is difficult.

As an aside, I moved to N. Austin in late 1997 and the value of our home has doubled since then. I'm turning 65 next year and will be able to freeze our property taxes.
