In 1984, about the time of the breakup of AT&T I invested $35,000 in a start up long distance carrier in the midwest called TMI. Believing that there was a window of opportunity for the new comers in the telecommunications industry. The founder and CEO was later prosecuted for fraud and misuse of funds etc.

Although not a lot of money, that $35K if invested in the Baby Bells and held until today would be worth over $250,000..... so I'd be nearly $300K better off by playing the ultra safe old established phone company. Some times you can't compete with Ma Bell!!!!
