I've been trying to transfer a Roth IRA from a full service broker (MSDW) to an account I set up at E*Trade for the past 3 months without any luck. The transfer keeps getting rejected by MSDW (so far for 3 different reasons) - I'm convinced that this is not something E*Trade is ever going to be able to accomplish for me. Can I just liquidate the Roth at the full service broker and immediately deposit the proceeds into the E*Trade account without causing myself tax headaches, or does the transfer have to be done between the 2 brokerage firms?
