Trash day is Wednesday here in Rockford MI. I have put my cart out at the curb at approx. 7 AM on my way to work every Wed. for the past 8 years I've lived here and have used the same company to pick it up all that time (although there have been a few acqusitions, so their name has changed from "Your Friendly Neighborhood Garbage Company" to "You Need Us, We Don't Need You, Inc."

We had 70 to 90 MPH winds on Tuesday night and all who put their trash out got it blown away. I put mine out at 7am on Wed. as always. I watched the truck drive right on by at around 9 am. I called the company and asked why my trash wasn't picked up. The Customer Servitude associate asked if I put my trash out the night before. I answered no, due to the storm and 8 years of habit I put it out at about 7am.

Well, seems their policy (a copy of which I have never seen) states that if your Garbage is not picked up and you did not have it out the night before it costs $7.50 to have it picked up before the next week's regular pick-up. This is the price for two weeks worth of service. A bit much to correct their error, I thought.
I spent about 15 minutes trying to get an exception to the policy due to the storm and the fact that the truck drove by well after the trash was out.
He may have been on break or just turning around on the cul de sac, when he drove by, she suggested
"Hmmm, nice of him to pick up all of the neighbor's trash that remained on their curb after the windstorm while he took his turn around/break", I thought.

I finally told her, "You know what, just cancel my service." (I'm moving next week). She asked if I still had one of their "handy bins". I said "Yes, I sure do." She asked me to leave it by the curb and they would pick it up within a few days. "Great," says I, " bring a big truck because it will be very full!"

Such great timing for a move. I would have kept the same service indefinitely had they treated me reasonably. Now, I will choose a new service for the new address.
