My wife and I would like to own our own home (though to be fair, my wife much more than me!).

I'm guessing that I'll need to trim some of my stock positions in order to make up at least part of the down payment. Is there any advice (general or specific) with regards to which positions should be trimmed and which should be held on to longer. I see all of my positions as long term/permanent but obviously life has grander plans....

In case that's too vague - should I hold more dividend stocks than non-divdend stocks after liquidating for a down payment? What other considerations should I take into account?

Our timeline for buying a house isn't for roughly three years depending on the market and (i suppose) interest rates.
