The chief driver of the post-election contention of the past several weeks is the petulant refusal of one man to accept the verdict of the American people. ...

Almost nothing that the Trump team has alleged has withstood the slightest scrutiny. In particular, it’s hard to find much that is remotely true in the president’s Twitter feed these days. It is full of already-debunked claims and crackpot conspiracy theories about Dominion voting systems. Over the weekend, he repeated the charge that 1.8 million mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania were mailed out, yet 2.6 million were ultimately tallied. In a rather elementary error, this compares the number of mail-ballots requested in the primary to the number of ballots counted in the general. A straight apples-to-apples comparison finds that 1.8 million mail-in ballots were requested in the primary and 1.5 million returned, while 3.1 million ballots were requested in the general and 2.6 million returned.

Flawed and dishonest assertions like this pollute the public discourse and mislead good people who make the mistake of believing things said by the president of the United States.

If you go to Reddit, there is a sub-reddit called "AskATrumpSupporter."

It doesn't matter what facts you marshal. They continue to claim there is overwhelming evidence. And when you pull the thread of one thing or another, they just say "AFFADAVITS!" and "There's tons more evidence" or "Oh, you're cherry picking" and when you ask them to choose the most compelling evidence, "It's not my job to prove every piece to you" and they abandon the thread, like every other conservative on this board.

1. There was rampant fraud in the 2020 election.

2. Did Democrats accept the results of the 2016 election? uh, no they didn't as they immediately started investigations and impeachments in order to try and oust Trump and continued this for 4 years.

Repeating that lie does not make it true.

2. Did Democrats accept the results of the 2016 election?

Yes.

...uh, no they didn't as they immediately started investigations and impeachments in order to try and oust Trump and continued this for 4 years.

You think that if officials in the Biden Administration are caught lying to federal authorities about contacts with Russians we should just ignore it? Not investigate?

Trump was impeached for a very good reason. You'd want Biden impeached if he did what Trump did.

You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

1. There was rampant fraud in the 2020 election.

Then, pray tell, then why hasn’t one single Trump attorney brought evidence of election fraud in court?

And why, when pushed by judges in court (including judges appointed by Reagan, Bush, and Trump), every single Trump attorney clearly stated they were not alleging that any fraud took place?

And why have no one in charge of state elections, including both Democrats AND Republicans, stated there was any fraud (except for the Lt. Governor of PA who said there were 2 cases of people trying to vote for Trump twice?

And why can’t you give any evidence of fraud?

The most logical reason is because there was no fraud.

2. Did Democrats accept the results of the 2016 election? uh, no they didn't as they immediately started investigations and impeachments in order to try and oust Trump and continued this for 4 years.

Uh, yes, we did. In fact Hillary conceded, with MUCH closer races, within 24 hours. Did we like it? No. And yes, we fought him every step of the way. No lawsuits were filed, including an apparent endless stream of bogus lawsuits nor did Democrat legislators try to overturn the popular vote in any state.

Remember, you can’t impeach Biden until he’s president.

The fact remains that the MAJORITY of Americans voted for President elect Biden.

Stop supporting a deranged serial sociopathic liar.

You just want rights without any obligations -- you really think you owe nothing to the society which has provided you with so much, nor to anyone besides yourself and (just maybe) your immediate family.

Your mom apparently never taught you to share.

A very sad way to live. And a very dangerous way for a society to self-organize. The unwillingness to acknowledge that your own behavior impacts on others in countless ways, and that part of the role of government is to minimize the negative effects of individual acts on everyone else is why it's dangerous.

Private fire departments don't work as well as you theorize they would.

PS - The MAJORITY of Americans also voted for Hillary Clinton. Not enough in the right states for her to win, but still a raw majority.

This is on going for two goals:

1) Trump and those Republicans loyal to him are trying to steal the election. (If they succeed they will be damaging our country and our constitution beyond repair. Stealing the election will alienate over 80,000,000 American voters and patriots -- many of whom will take a range actions. The American experiment will be over and we can look forward to cruel Authoritarian rightwing rule over a ever weakening crumbling nation).

2) This is a grift that allows Trump, a few Republican politicians, and his team of grifters, lawyers, right-wing on-line podcasters to fleece the trump base. So far they have raised 180 million to "stop the steal". So even if goal "1" fails they fill their pockets with the money form the gullible Trump base

The White House is literally scamming Trump donors using a direct mail campaign. Is there any doubt that these dollars will end up propping up Trump’s money losing properties?

Fools and their money...

"A very sad way to live. And a very dangerous way for a society to self-organize"

America was founded on self organizing, small Government by the people, for the people. It's not meant to be a bloated bureaucracy massive in size, over bearing, does everything for everyone, it was meant to protect and referee the lives of free people.

The left prefers a nanny state, does all, covers all, provides all type Government. You can get that all over the world, America was the only example of true freedom and liberty on the planet, why do you want to destroy what made America special? Why do you want us to be like other countries/Governments?

Huh. What?

Guess you don’t want to discuss the total lack of proof for voter fraud, which I understand. There isn’t any.

However, anytime you want to discuss what my expectations are from government, there’s no need to make up stuff. Happy to discuss in a different thread.

This thread is about Trump’s destruction of democratic norms and the sycophants that support his anti-democratic behavior.

Not accurate, although she did win the plurality of the votes.

Not accurate,

Technically, we're both wrong. We both said a "majority of Americans". With well over 300 million residents, neither Clinton nor Biden received sufficient votes to be the majority of Americans.

I suppose I could adjust that 300+ million for non-citizens and those not of voting age. But I'm pretty sure that both of those together would not be sufficient to get to a majority of American citizens of voting age. (I want to say non-citizens are around 7% of the population, and those under 18 are about 25%. But that's all from memory, which is not always reliable nor up to date.)

But if we adjust things to look at a majority of votes cast, we finally get to your point. Clinton won something like 48% of the vote, while Biden is around 51%.

At any rate, Trump has never received the most votes in any election. In terms of raw votes cast, another candidate was preferred by more voters both times.

In the end, you're killing my buzz. I'm trying to get under the thin skin of people repeating the malicious lies of widespread voter fraud by pointing out that their candidate has never received more votes than his opponent in any election.

Stop beating around the bush, PA posters. Say what needs to be said to the traitorous, willfully ignorant Trump cult. They believe only what Tinkerbell TV tells them:
The GOP propaganda branch implores the Trump cult to show their belief in election fraud by applauding Trump and as the cult is worked into a frenzy, Trump will be miraculously revived and will avert election defeat. The cult just needs to believe in Trump hard enough.

All the world is made of faith, and trust, and Trump pixie dust.

Ignorance this willful is indistinguishable from stupidity.
