Young people ages 16 to 25, across 10 countries were surveyed about climate change and government response to climate change. In the US, only 21% trust the government response. Climate change is only one issue, but it is an important one among young people.

General trust in the US federal government has been on the decline: from 60% in 2000 to around 45% now. Trust increased both after the 9/11 attacks and the 2008 financial crisis. Trust in government is now near an all-time low.

Any thoughts on what the Gallup poll will say in 5 years? The Gallup question is: How much trust and confidence do you have in our federal government in Washington when it comes to handling [International problems/Domestic problems] -- a great deal, a fair amount, not very much or none at all? Is the answer to this question important?

Young People's Voices on Climate Anxiety, Government Betrayal and Moral Injury: A Global Phenomenon, 7 Sep 2021

Young people experiencing 'widespread' psychological distress over government handling of looming climate crisis, researchers say, September 14, 2021
The youth feels a sense of "institutional betrayal" brought on by their leaders.
"Children and young people around the world are experiencing increasing anxiety over the fate of the planet -- specifically climate change and how lawmakers are handling the looming crisis, according to new research. Scientists who surveyed 10,000 young people, ages 16 to 25, across 10 countries, found "widespread psychological distress" among them, and, for the first time, discovered that the anxiety was significantly related to perceived government inaction, according to a study published Tuesday in Lancet Planetary Health."

Trust in Federal Government's Competence Remains Low, September 29, 2020
"At the same time Americans want the government to take a more active role in solving the country's problems, Americans' levels of trust in the federal government to handle the two broad types of challenges the country faces remain near their all-time lows. Just under half (48%) say they have a "great deal" or "fair amount" of confidence in the government to handle international problems, and 41% say the same about domestic problems."

Hoepfully the Democratic Speaker, President, Vice President, and Senate Leader can reverse this belief.

They are in power.....

In the Bush years, *someone* used to say "the buck stops with the President" over every little thing.

I wonder who that was ?

;)
