i am the trustee of a trust for the benefit of my sister. i am working on form 1041, u.s. income tax return for estates and trust.

on line 11, i can take a deduction for state income tax paid. the state in question is delaware, therefore, i go to delaware form 400, delaware fiduciary income tax return.

the first line on that return asks for the federal taxable income of fiduciary (form 1041, line 22). but i cannot calculate line 22 without first calculating line 11.

so it seems i'm in an infinite loop.

what am i missing?
