<<PEMBROKE, Bermuda, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- TyCom Ltd. (NYSE: TCM; BSX: TCM) today announced that it has accomplished critical milestones in its buildout of the TyCom Global Network (``TGN') in Spain and Portugal. The company has received its operator licenses in both countries, signed leases on TelExchange colocation facilities in major cities, and opened a capacity sales office in Madrid, Spain. These milestones are key to Phase 1 deployment of TGN. The company's investment for the Iberian projects over the next 12 months is approximately USD $90 million.

Further, TyCom has reached an agreement with providers of terrestrial network connectivity to extend the reach of TGN. The agreement was signed with Renfe, the Spanish National Railway provider and includes additional connectivity through Euskaltel, a leading carrier in the Basque region of Spain, and Brisatel, the telecom subsidiary of Brisa, the national motorway operator in Portugal. TyCom will utilize the leased dark fiber from Renfe and its collaborators to connect to the other terrestrial and subsea portions of the TGN system, thus providing global broadband connectivity to the major cities on the Iberian Peninsula.>>
