Unfortunately, Pen Fed's " fire sales," as we call them, are not as predictable as we would like. But yes, for the last few years they have occasionally had CD rates that are way outside what the rest of the CD or Treasury market has offerred. January has been consistent, and some of us are knocking on wood for next January. Last year they had a surprise September fire sale, which I, for one, missed. This year we are getting October. In both cases these fall fire sales have been at odds with an otherwise declining interest rate trend, which is why some of us chose to lock in rates that looked good at the time. Someone (I think Bobcatkitty) this year called and asked and was told they had gotten so much money in January they wouldn't be having a fall fire sale.
