Upon recommendation I came here to read this post 10 years too late, and you know what? I'm impressed. One more rec from me because of the timeless nature of the advice therein.

What I'm most cognizant of in my very limited experience as an investor is the somewhat sketchy border that exists between investing and gambling. It seems to me like once you feel that emotional pull to do what only makes sense in your heart and not in your gut - you've begun to gamble. I say trust the gut, and forgive the heart for it's 'visions of overnight riches'.
