I have a mentally ill child. A seriously, mental ill child. I won't go into details, but its bad, the kind of bad that keeps a parent up at night.

I work for an awesome employer revered for the medical benefits they provide, but because of ERISA I don't have parity in mental health coverage, so there are two different plans. If my mental health coverage was like my medical coverage I would have unlimited visits, no referrals required for specialists, no deductible, no copay and no limits including institutional care. My child could get they care they need.

Well in trying to sweeten the pot, the ending of the ERISA langugage that prevents parity in healthcare for mental illness would go away. Talk about being torn. I abhore the bailout, I think it is doomed to failure. I love my son, I want to see him get better and would rather not be bankrupted in the process. I see voting for the bailout as bankrupting my future and that of my children, but in the same stroke if I also vote against parity in coverage, I could be bankrupting my child's future along with my own - where my child has a strong possibility of having a future in a gray cold cell, and me buried in medical bills delaying/preventing any hope of a retirement.

I really have to ponder now what I am going to write my Congress critter.
