I have just spent the last 2 hrs. reading all the posts from Feb.! Lots of great info. I'm hoping to buy a new Mac in the near future. I use my Power Mac 6500 for all my photos, but I want to upgrade so I can edit my digital videos. I'm wondering what would be my best bet? I was leaning towards the iMac DV SE, but since there seems to be speculation on a new machine, I'm sure I'll wait until it comes out. I definately want it with CD-RW.What is the best Mac to have for photos and videos and why? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.Susie
Get the iMac DvSE or the G4 Cube, these two are your best bet in terms of simple photo and video editing. You have to remember though, that you must get the biggest hard drive you can afford and lots of RAM to get the best results.BTW,if you are using a pre-USB Mac,get a serial to USB thingy so that you can use your old printer and stuff.
Dinobotprime:You have to remember though, that you must get the biggest hard drive you can afford and lots of RAM to get the best results.I must disagree here. The disk drives of today are very big, and you shouldbuy what you need now, and buy something muchlarger later when prices have dropped. If you canget away with 20Gig you can edit a lot of video.I am using my G4 tower to edit 20 min of video withjust a 10Gig drive and 128mb ram. No problem.Of course that soaks up about half the disk. ButI will output to tape when finished, and delete theproject. I don't want a video jukebox.Take a ballpark estimate at what your needs will be,and realize in 6 months everything will be cheaper,in case you were a bit low.Of coures since drive and memory costs are fairly lowif you feel more comfortable just getting a largersystem to avoid having to deal with installation, that may be a valid cost/service tradeoff, but a memory upgrade is the easiest one to do.In any case must is NOT the operative word.YMMV of course.0xF00L
