The citizens here think you should able to marry whoever you want, and you can smoke pot if you want to. Neither of those affect me personally, I'm already married to the person I want to marry and I'm not interested in smoking pot.

But it is nice the government can no longer those decisions for other people. It is nice feeling.

If you smoke pot you can go to a Federal prison rather than a state prison.

Yeah, but who is going to arrest you?

Actually my best friend that is gay and lives with his boyfriend of 17 years lives in Walla Walla, Washington. It will be fun to see if they end up getting married? My friend told me that he never wanted to get married again so we'll see.

They are in the process of buying a home and ten acres in Walla Walla. He is really into wine making and wants to start making wine again. He made some wine when he was living in Albany, NY but had to store all his equipment when they moved out there. They've been living in an apartment and were taking their time because my friend, who is 58 years old, was in school taking wine making classes at the college there.

Walla Walla is a booming wine making area. Apparently the soils and climate are just right for wine grapes.

Unfortunately, the Federal Government does not agree. It is still Federally illegal to sell even medical marijuana, and the Feds do not recognize same-sex marriage (remember the Defense of Marriage Act passed during the Bush regime?)

The genie is out of the bottle and it ain't going back in. This is like the civil rights struggle. Actually it is the civil rights struggle. People fought like bloody hell to keep schools segregated but today the idea of re-segregating schools is laughable. The only reason to argue that black kids shouldn't go to the same schools as white is kids boils down to "we've always done it that way." Once you haven't done it that way for a while, that argument goes away as well. Schools were integrated in my lifetime. Change happens fast once the first steps are taken.

Same with gay rights and gay marriage. There is no rational argument why gays shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else. People may try, but no one will ever be successful in taking away legal rights for gay people now those rights have been established. Other states will follow soon, and so will the federal government.

It is a pretty great day. I'm really proud it happened in my state.

In a lot of places the schools have re-segregated. For example, in Hartford the schools are largely black and Puerto Rican since all the whites either moved to the suburbs or sent their kids to parochial school.

I realize that DOMA has not been settled completely, but I believe it is on its way out the door during Obama's second term. I guess it depends on what the Supreme Court decides to do.
