We left Padua after a leisurely breakfast and took the train to Siena, with a quick change in Firenze.

After walking up the winding streets past the Campo and the Duomo, we located the apartment where we’ll be staying for the next 5 nights. It’s lovely, and the view from the bedroom terrace is breathtaking: the city walls and an enormous Gothic basilica looming over the rooftops. The late afternoon was warm and mostly sunny, but many streets are now in shadows and the air is cool.

We’ve been here barely two hours, and I love it already. We can’t wait to wander the Campo this evening and have dinner. I think I’d be happy here for quite some time.
